The Senior Scholars: Islaam & The Muslims Are Free From The Misguided Ideology of The Takfeeris & A Rebuttal That Khaarijite Beliefs Are The Same as Salafi Beliefs

الحمد لله رب العالمين، وصلى الله وسلم على نبينا محمد وعلى آله وأصحابه أجمعين،  أما بعد

In a declaration issued by the committee of senior scholars from the city of Ta’if dated 2/4/1419H the committee of scholars issued a message in which they spoke of the misguided and mistaken ideology of the takfeeris, during the course of the announcement they stated:

“…Whilst the assembly has clarified the ruling of making takfeer (declaring others as non-Muslim) of the people without any evidence from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) along with the danger in that if left unimpeded; due to what follows on from that by way of evils and vices.

For it (the assembly) indeed announces to the world that: Islaam is free of this mistaken belief, likewise that which occurs in some countries by way of the shedding of innocent blood and the bombing of residences and means of transportation and facilities both public and private as well as destroying the installations – then it is a criminal act. Islaam is free of it; and likewise every Muslim who believes in Allaah and the Last Day is free of it.

It is instead the conduct of someone with an astray ideology and a misguided belief; and he will bear its wrongdoing and its crime. So his actions should not be ascribed to Islaam; nor to the Muslims who are guided with the guidance of Islaam, those that safeguard themselves with the Book and the Sunnah, those who hold on to the firm Rope of Allaah. Rather it is an outright corruption and a criminality which the Legislation and natural disposition disapprove of.

Due to this; many unequivocal textual citations in the legislation have come stating its forbiddance along with the warning against accompanying its people. He, The Most High said:

((And of the people is he whose speech may please you in this worldly life, and he calls Allaah to witness as to that which is in his heart, yet he is the most quarrelsome of opponents. And when he goes away, he strives throughout the land to cause corruption therein and destroy crops and animals; and Allaah does not like corruption. And when it is said to him; ‘fear Allaah,’ pride in the sin takes hold of him – sufficient for him is the Hell-fire, and what a wretched resting place.)) (Al-Baqarah: 204-206)

So that which is obligatory upon all of the Muslims in every place is that they should enjoin one another with the truth and in giving sincere advice and to co-operate upon righteousness and piety, as well as to enjoin the good and to forbid wrongdoing with wisdom and through admonishing in a fine manner and to debate with that which is best.”

From the scholars who acknowledged this declaration were:

Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez bin Baaz (Head of the assembly)

Shaikh Muhammad bin Saalih Al-‘Uthaimeen

Shaikh Saalih bin Muhammad Al-Luhaydaan

Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez bin ‘Abdillaah Aal Ash-Shaikh

Shaikh ‘Abdullaah bin ‘Abdir-Rahmaan Al-Ghudayaan

Shaikh Saalih bin Fawzaan Al-Fawzaan, and many others.

The Salafi Belief is Not the Belief of the Khawaarij:

Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) was asked: “What is your response to those who say that the ‘Aqeedah (belief) of the Khawaarij was Salafi ‘Aqeedah; and that they – meaning the Khawaarij are Salafi?”

Answer: “This is a false statement; and it has indeed been proven false by the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) in his saying with regards to the Khawaarij:

((A renegade [group] will shoot out at a time of division amongst my Ummah [nation]; one of you will depreciate his prayer to their prayer and his recitation to their recitation. They shoot out from Islaam with the shooting of the arrow from the bow. Wherever you come across them then kill them; for indeed in the killing of them is a reward for the one that kills them))[1]

and in other wording from the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) regarding the Khawaarij:

((They kill the people of Islaam and leave the people of idolatory))[2]

It is indeed known from their belief that they make takfeer of the sinners from amongst the Muslims, and they judge that they will reside forever in the Fire. Due to this they fought against ‘Ali (radhiyallaahu ‘anhu) and those that were with him from the companions and other than them; so ‘Ali fought them and killed them on the Day of Nahrawaan; may Allaah be pleased with him and with all of the companions – and Allaah is The One to grant ability.”
