ISIS: A Blend of: the Ideology of the Ancient Renegades, the Ignorance of the Unenlightened & the People of Desires – With A Barbarism Unheard of Except With the Tartars

الحمد لله رب العالمين، وصلى الله وسلم على نبينا محمد وعلى آله وأصحابه أجمعين، أما بعد

Shaikh Muhammad bin Haadi Al-Madkhali (hafidhahullaah) said concerning ISIS:

“Indeed this group; the group of ISIS is a renegade Khaarijite group, I do not know amongst the Khaarijites of this era there to be of more detriment upon Islaam and the Muslims than it. It is a renegade Khaarijite group that the Muslim should not be beguiled by what he sees from them by way of a manifestation of Islaam – for they are the furthest that could be from Islaam and Islaam is free of their actions. It is impermissible to attribute them to Islaam – rather it is obligatory upon every Muslim to whom Allaah has given knowledge and understanding and discernment of this group and acquaintance of its condition and expertise of it – that he advises the Muslims and warns them against them.

For it is a mischief-making criminal group which has corrupted the lands of the Muslims, it caused corruption in ‘Iraq, and it caused corruption in Syria, and it caused corruption in Egypt, and it caused corruption in Libya, and it caused corruption in Tunisia, and it caused corruption in Mali, and it caused corruption in north-east Mauritania, and it caused corruption in southern Algeria, and in south-east Algeria. Likewise in the land of Yemen it continues to cause corruption until this day of ours, and likewise with us in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, it causes corruption to the utmost degree of disorder.

So now these people, you will see them without the presence of a single scholar with them, the scholars who are the inheritors of the Prophets are not with them, sufficient is this as a proof of the corrupt nature of what they are upon.

This is how the triviality of their likes are to be found in all of the splinter groups that have diverged from the mother of the Khaarijites – altogether; the group of the Ikhwaan Al-Muslimeen.

For it is the basis, the mother of all of these (groups), and thus from them there came out these splinter groups, the organization of Sayyid Qutb in the year 1965 according to the Gregorian calendar and in the year 1385 according to the Hijri calendar, the organization of Sayyid Qutb and those with him.

From them there came out Jamaa’ah At-Takfeer wal-Hijrah, from them came out Jamaa’ah At-Tawaqquf wat-Tabayyun, from them there came out Jamaa’atul Jihaad, from them came out Al-Jamaa’ah Al-Islaamiyyah, the Jamaa’ah of ‘Umar ‘Abdur-Rahmaan and those with him. From them there came out these (groups) altogether up until there came the mother of these new splinter groups, and it is the group; Al-Qaeda, and from it there came out ISIS. So ISIS is the strongest and biggest son now upon the battlefield for Al-Qaeda, and next to it is Jabhah An-Nusrah – all of them stem from this Al-Qaeda – a regulation away from good and betaken with swiftness into evil.

So all of these splinter groups return back to the organization of Hasan Al-Banna – that of the Ikhwaan Al-Muslimeen (The Muslim Brotherhood), and they are as was stated by Shaikh Muhammad Haamid Al-Faqee (rahimahullaah) the head of Jam’iyyah Ansaar As-Sunnah Al-Muhammadiyyah in his time in Egypt – and as I myself stated to you many times that they are: ‘Khawwaan Al-Muslimeen, Khaanullaaha Subhaanahu wa Ta’aalaa’ traitors of the Muslims, they (think to) betray Allaah, The Glorified and Most High, they were treacherous to the people of Islaam – and now you see their fruits.”[1]

The Shaikh said also concerning ISIS:

“It has nothing to do with Islaam; and Islaam is free of it, and in terms of criminality we have not seen anyone the like of them in this era – nor have we heard in terms of their actions and their barbarism and their filth and their imposing reign upon the people of Islaam in the ancient history except for that of the Tartars[2]

This group came out from the belly of the group: ‘Al-Khawaan Al-Mufliseen’[3] (Al-Ikhwaan Al-Muslimeen – or the Muslim Brotherhood), they came out from it. Their actual original mother is this very group, and they pulled away from the organization of Al-Qaeda, so the origin of all of them is the organization of Al-Qaeda (a regulation away from good and betaken into evil), which was founded in Afghanistan when there was war there. Then the issue of its leadership ended after ‘Abdullaah ‘Azzaam to bin Laadin, and after bin Laadin to Ayman Az-Zawahiri, and Ayman Az-Zawahiri is from where? From Egypt, from Al-Jamaa’ah Al-Islaamiyyah and he was imprisoned following the assassination of Sadat, then he came out after that and entered Afghanistan at that time.”[4]

The Shaikh said likewise:

“The Islamic State of Iraq and Sham – as they call themselves, these people are evil; these are now from the most evil of sects – we ask Allaah for well-being and safeguard. These people have consolidated between the ideology of the ancient foul Khawaarij and between the ignorance of the ignoramus’s and the contemporary people of desires, and they are in reality an organization in which there is gathered the irregular notions which are deviated from Islaam from all (varying) directions – and so they convened upon them.

Except that these people do not represent (exemplify) Islaam, and they are the furthest of people from Islaam and the most ignorant of people with regard to Islaam, how can they be (as they claim) and yet there is not a scholar amongst them? There is no scholar amongst them from the scholars of Islaam, nor any that inherited (knowledge) from the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam).

There isn’t a scholar among them from the scholars of Islaam, or from the Huffaadh of Hadeeth, or from the Mufassireen, or from the Fuqahaa. Rather they are merely a conglomeration of ignorant Khaarijites who are a calamitous evil upon Islaam and the Muslims, we ask Allaah for well-being and safeguard. They have not brought about any benefit, rather they have caused harm and have impaired the good reputation of Islaam and have distorted its clearness and its beauty amongst the ignorant Muslims concerning Islaam and amongst the disbelievers who seek an excuse to hold on to in order to misrepresent Islaam and its people.”[5]

[2] The Tartars were a Turkic people who lived in Europe and Asia from amongst whom various groups became part of the armies of the Mongol leader Genghis Khan around the late twelfth or early thirteenth century. The well known historian Ibn Al-Atheer (d.630H/1233CE) said of them and of the horrific events that took place involving them: “If one were to say; that indeed the world – since Allaah, The Glorified and Most High created Aadam (Adam)  – until now has not been afflicted with its like – then he would be truthful. For indeed the histories do not contain that which comes near to it – nor that which approaches it, and perhaps the creation may not see the like of this event (again) until the world ceases to exist and the life of the world comes to an end – except in the case of Gog and Magog.” (Abridged from: Al-Kaamil fit-Ta’reekh vol 12 p.358)
